Electric convectors: advantages, what are they, how they work, which one to choose?

Electric convectors are inexpensive heating systems that are suitable for heating almost any room.

How do electric convectors work
In short, inside the structure of any electric convector there is a heating element that makes the air warm, and then distributes it throughout the room. Due to such a simple system, the room heats up quickly, almost immediately after plugging in the device. Moreover, the higher you put the electric convector, the more efficiently it will work: because cold air is heavier in density than warm air.
Benefits
Safety. In any electric convectors, the heating element is inside, i.e. neither you nor your children may get burned on purpose while the device is in operation.
Ease of use. None of the models of electric convectors need to be cleaned from scale and fuel residues.
An understandable device. After the purchase, the electric convector does not need to be set up, it is ready for use at once - just plug it into an outlet.
Reliability. Due to the simple design, such convectors rarely break, and if they break, they are very easy to repair.
Almost do not dry the air, in comparison with convective and radiant heaters.
What are they
By the type of attachment there are floor, wall and universal convectors. You can put the first type on any horizontal surface, if there is enough space and you are sure that the device is stable. The second type is designed for mounting on a vertical surface or even an inclined surface. The universal convector could be installed almost anywhere.
By the type of heating element, electric convectors are:

  • Tubular. Most popular devices. Protected from overheating and moisture, but they heat up loudly and for a long time, compared to other types.
  • Needle-like. They are cheaper, but not protected from overheating and moisture.
  • Monolithic. They are the most expensive, but they work silently, heat up quickly and consume little electricity.

How to choose
Decide where you will put or install a new item. If on the floor, use a model with legs. If you are going to hang it on the wall – choose one with the ability of fixing.
Calculate your budget. The cheapest way is to buy a needle convector, but if you buy a monolithic one, you will save on electricity in the long run.
Decide if you need additional features. For example, a model with a built-in humidifier will not only heat the room, but also make sure that the air in it is not too dry.
Calculate the amount of power consumption. The power should be the higher, the more the room you are going to heat. At the same time, keep in mind that old wiring does not handle very powerful models.
